Food & Nutrition Policy

A child who has received adequate nutrition will better be able to learn, grow, and develop. To achieve this, we will provide meals to all enrolled children. We will offer a minimum of two meals and a snack, which will meet 2/3 of a child’s daily nutritional needs. We can receive partial reimbursement through the Child Care and Adult Food Program (C.A.C.F.P.).

The meals/snacks offered will meet the following guidelines:

  • Be nutritionally balanced. High fat and high sugar foods are to be kept to a minimum. Meals will be planned in advance and follow C.A.C.F.P. guidelines.
  • Offer children’s favorite foods, while also introducing ethnically diverse selections.
  • Be served family style. Each child shall be encouraged, not required, to try each food.
  • Be served on washable dishes or paper products.
  • Styrofoam will not be used.
  • Be served in child size portions. Caution will be taken to avoid choking hazards (cut grapes, hot dogs, etc.; no nuts).
  • Alternatives will be offered in the place of foods that a child may be allergic to or does not eat for religious reasons.
  • Be a time for pleasant interaction between ourselves and children.

Infant feedings will follow these guidelines:

  • Infants will be fed according to a written agreement (i.e. every two hours, on demand) obtained from parents. Parents may provide formula if desired.
  • Infants 6 months of age and under, or those older infants who cannot hold a bottle, will be held while feeding. Bottles are not to be propped up for feeding.
  • Cups/bottles will be labeled with the child’s name and used only by that child.
